Karachi – Muhammad Noman Saigal Former Minister Sindh and Chairman Standing Committee on Communication FPCCI has specifically focused on the public price concern on the high rates of electricity units which has created extra ordinary pressure on the masses. There is no check and balance on price hike at the electricity bills in Karachi made the life of the consumers miserable, nobody is bothered and shown any concern. The masses are being exploited at large and facing tremendous pressure every month there is no Installment plan on current bills. What are the rights of the consumers? We feel that it’s high time to take drastic legal steps to control the huge unit cost.
The business community has started raising their voice to do the utmost to reduce the price but the controlling authority should also play a vital role to put penalties on the utility supplier in Karachi if the bills exceed certain limit there should be a line to be drawn or price bracket including taxes which were also added drastically without any law or limit designed by the tax department how the regulator is allowed to add as much tax as they like which increases the bills. How come the cost of electricity is much lower than the unit consumed tax can only be charged on a certain percentage of the cost of the units consumed all over the globe.
It’s high time to amend laws in regards to the calculation of the process of units plus tax etc public sectors should be involved in the policy making and new board should take place in which businessmen and the stake holders should be a part of the board.
The international utility companies should be considered and check their billing system as well as the rights of the consumers. The usage of electricity should also be checked if the properties are un occupied how the units are charged like usable property why they are all getting away, there should be a surcharge on wrong billing on any consumer should be imposed on the electricity supplier why there are rules for consumers only who suffers the most.
It is suggested that drastic steps may be taken to save the people who are the back bone of any country who should be considered on priority basis. If it’s not done now in the interest of our country Pakistan May lead to destructio.
