USEFP Now Accepting Applications for the 2027 Fulbright Student Program

Islamabad, February 20, 2026 — The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the prestigious 2027 Fulbright Student Program. Funded by the United States government in partnership with the Government of Pakistan, the highly competitive merit-based scholarship supports graduate study at leading U.S. universities, including tuition, living expenses, insurance, and air travel. The program defines merit broadly, considering not only grades and test scores but also applicants’ leadership potential and commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s future in a manner that supports U.S. policy goals.
The Fulbright Program is open to applicants from all fields of study and especially encourages those from sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, trade, economics, and natural resource management. While clinical medicine is not included in the Fulbright Program, the program welcomes non-clinical public health applications. The application portal is open, and interested candidates should apply at www.usefp.org by the April 1, 2026, deadline.
Highlighting the program’s significance, U.S. Embassy Islamabad Director of Public Engagement Heidi Smith remarked, “the Fulbright Program represents one of the United States’ most enduring exchange programs. Through it, we are investing in Pakistan’s next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Pakistani Fulbright graduates are transforming their communities and tackling challenges that matter. Cultural exchanges and our educational partnerships are vitally important because they truly have the power to improve our joint prosperity, particularly as the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence.”
Since 2005, over 3,000 Pakistani students have received scholarships to pursue graduate studies in the United States. These alumni are actively engaged in civic and government service, as well as utilizing their expertise in trade and finance to promote economic growth in Pakistan. Many Fulbright graduates continue to collaborate with American research institutions, businesses, and technology hubs on their return home, highlighting American technological expertise and strengthening the U.S.-Pakistan bilateral partnership.
In a message to prospective applicants, USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran encouraged students from across Pakistan to apply for the premier exchange program. “The Fulbright Program in Pakistan has empowered thousands of students to fulfill their dreams of studying at U.S. institutions, which are known for their academic excellence and innovative research opportunities. For 75 years, USEFP has not only nurtured Pakistani talent but has also facilitated American connections, fostering partnerships that address global challenges and promote prosperity for both nations.”
USEFP is a bi-national commission established in 1950 by the governments of the United States and Pakistan. Since its inception, more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans have participated in USEFP-administered exchange programs. Its mission is to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Pakistan through educational exchange. For more information, visit www.usefp.org.
