NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced deep concern over increasing Indian military actions against Pakistan, urging both countries to show maximum restraint to prevent further escalation. He emphasized that a conflict between two nuclear-armed nations would have grave global consequences and stressed the urgent need for diplomatic efforts and de-escalation.
In response to India’s recent missile strikes, Pakistan officially briefed the United Nations on the situation. Following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative in New York informed the UN Secretary-General, President of the UN General Assembly, and President of the UN Security Council about what Islamabad described as blatant Indian aggression in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international law.
Pakistan’s envoy to the UN reiterated the country’s stance that it reserves the right to respond to India’s provocations, and urged the Security Council to take note of the threat posed to international peace and security.
