TIKA Support for Newborn Health in Pakistan.

Karachi: Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (T?KA) donated 5 hospitals operating in Sindh province of Pakistan with 5 new technology Newborn Hearing Screening Devices to be used in the newborn departments of the hospitals and more than 100 health personnel were given hearing screening training.

Within the scope of the Mother and Child Health Support Program (MCHSP) conducted by T?KA, more than one hundred health staff from more than ten different health institutions were introduced to screening devices, and theoretical and practical training in the field of hearing screening was provided by experts from Türkiye.

Muhammad Qasim Soomro, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Sindh Province, O?uz Kozanl?, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of T.C. Karachi, Halil ?brahim Ba?aran, T?KA Karachi Coordinator, Koohi Goth Hospital officials, academics, NGO representatives and health workers participated in the inaugural program of the Newborn Hearing Screening Training conducted by T?KA and held in cooperation with Karachi Koohi Goth Women’s and Maternity Hospital.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Parliamentary Secretary Soomro stated that the Sindh provincial government has implemented numerous projects in the field of health and that they have held cooperation negotiations with T?KA for the children’s hospital planned to be established in Sindh province, one of these projects. Thanking Türkiye specifically for T?KA’s projects in the field of health, Soomro stated that the new technology devices provided by T?KA in the field of hearing screening will make significant contributions to the early diagnosis of hearing problems of newborn children in Pakistan.

T.C. Karachi Deputy Consul General O?uz Kozanl? stated in his speech that the projects carried out by T?KA contributed greatly to the relations between the two countries. Kozanl? stated that the technology transfer project in the field of hearing screening is very important for the future generations of Pakistan.

T?KA Karachi Coordinator Halil ?brahim Ba?aran stated that each of the projects carried out by T?KA with its two offices in Pakistan is a brick laid on the bridge of brotherhood and friendship between Türkiye and Pakistan and he stated that as T?KA, we will continue to produce projects to further strengthen this bridge.

After the speeches, the new technology devices that provide ease of use for newborn babies, provided by T?KA were delivered to the authorities of Koohi Goth Hospital, Liaquat University of Medical Health Sciences University Hospital, Jinnah Training and Research Hospital, Al Mustafa Hospital and Alkhidmat Hospital where a total of more than 50 thousand births take place annually. Hearing screening devices are expected to provide great convenience in the early diagnosis of hearing problems in newborn babies.

Nearly 700 projects in 13 years

Approximately 80 of the nearly 700 development projects carried out by T?KA in Pakistan since 2010 are development projects in the field of health. With the construction and equipment of the Recep Tayyip Erdo?an Friendship Hospital in Muzaffergarh, operating theaters established in many hospitals, mobile clinics, medical equipment, as well as training programs in the field of health, T?KA continues to support Pakistan, a friendly and brotherly country in the field of health as it has done in other fields.
