The SLIC Summit 2024 took place in Karachi in the presence of Chief Guest Mr Jam Kamal Federal Minister Commerce.
Karachi Pakistan :The SLIC Summit 2024 took place in Karachi in the presence of Chief Guest Mr Jam Kamal Federal Minister Commerce along with esteemed members Sulaiman Mehdi Chairman SLIC, Shoaib Javed CEO SLIC, Muhammad Farid Alam – CEO AKD Securities Limited,Shahnawaz Nadir Shah – CIO, State Life Insurance Corporation, Farrukh Khan – CEO, Pakistan Stock Exchange, Shahid Ali Habib – CEO, Arif Habib Limited, Rehmat Ali Hasnie – President & CEO, National Bank of Pakistan and others.Â
The summit started by recitation followed by address by Mr Sulaiman Chairman SLIC. He said,” SLIC has taken no grants from govt since inception which is a big achievement. We regularly pay bonus payouts to our policyholders and good dividend to our shareholders. We have diverse portfolio and have the best ratings from PACRA”. Along with it he mentioned,” Our focus is strengthening financial and environmental ecosystem. For Rural economy, we have kisaan protection plan for their support. For urban economy we have inherited many real estate projects to build great infrastructure”. He concluded by saying,” SLIC is a classic example of turnaround in SOEs. If SLIC can do this, then other SOEs can also do this by tough decision making”.
Then first panelist discussion on healthcare was carried out by healthcare division along with esteemed guests from different provinces who shared their experiences of providing Sehat Card in rural areas and how it has enhanced the satisfaction and trust of people residing in those areas.
The second panelist discussion was focused on the pivotal role played by institutional investors especially SLIC in providing stability to the economy.
CEO Shoaib Javed Hussain said,” Sir Jam Kamal you played a vital role in facilitating sehat card in Baluchistan which was discussed in detail in our panel discussion on Sehat Card facilities in KP, Baluchistan and Punjab. Moreover, SLIC has increased its profits by more than 100%. We are catering to people all over Pakistan from Gwadar to Azad Kashmir. Then we had discussion on the pivotal role of SLIC in capital and financial market”.
Mr. Jam Kamal Federal Minister Commerce officially launched digital services of State Life Insurance.
Mr Jam Kamal said,”Ae khuda mere abbu salamat rahe still brings back all the memories of childhood. Im very fond of SLIC team which is the reason it is a success. People were critical about the SLIC health program but, it has helped people even in remote areas as the people frequently visit different hospitals for their health problem”.
He added,”this healthcare facility became an incentive for commercial hospitals to form their branches even in remote areas as by the data being provided SLIC, they are aware that people living in remote areas have access to Rs 1 million of healthcare”.
Furthermore, he gave his views on SLIC investment diversification strategy,”it is a good sign that SLIC is investing in different ventures and broadening their portfolio which will help in generating greater return”.
Addressing questions from mediapersons Jam Kamal Commerce minister said,”the government is doing everything in its capacity to facilitate exporters and businessmen and we have two main issues of high cost of production and high electricity. The inflation rate has already decreased to half its value which is a good sign”. On the question of most expensive electricity provision by K electric he said,”PM Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister and Energy Ministers are regularly holding various meetings on this issue and progress will be made”. On the issue of digitalization in commerce ministry and its missions, he added,” like SLIC app, we have also introduced trade portal to monitor progress of all our trade missions”.
At the end of the Summit, Mr Jam Kamal Commerce Minister was provided with memento consisting of painting made by differently abled person from Karachi. Later, Mr Jam Kamal presented mementos to other members and panelists.
