KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially approved a five-year age relaxation for candidates applying for government jobs, effective from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Chief Secretary of Sindh, reported ARY News on Thursday.
Under the new policy, candidates can now apply for government jobs until the age of 33, instead of the previous 28-year limit. However, this relaxation will not apply to candidates appearing for the Sindh Civil Services Exam (SCE).
This adjustment comes after the Supreme Court upheld a Sindh High Court ruling that struck down an earlier 2020 notification, which had granted up to 15 years of age relaxation. The court maintained that broader relaxations require clear justification and must align with the legal framework, although departmental secretaries can allow up to two years of relaxation, and the chief secretary can approve up to five years.
The Sindh government’s decision aims to facilitate job seekers while ensuring that policies comply with court directives.
In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently abolished the “son quota” policy, which previously allowed the family member of a deceased government employee to secure a government job under the Prime Minister’s Assistance Package.
