Sher Khan was remembered across Pakistan on Sunday as the nation marked the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, recipient of the country’s highest military honour, the Nishan-e-Haider.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan embraced martyrdom on July 5, 1999, while fighting on the Kargil front. He is widely recognised for displaying exceptional courage and determination during the conflict.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the martyr’s mausoleum, where floral tributes were offered. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honour in recognition of his sacrifice and service to the nation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, describing his supreme sacrifice as a shining chapter in Pakistan’s military history.
In his message, the prime minister said the martyr’s courage and devotion to the motherland reflected the highest traditions of patriotism, loyalty and bravery. He added that Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s sacrifice serves as a lasting reminder that Pakistan’s freedom and sovereignty have been secured through the sacrifices of its martyrs.
Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces against all internal and external threats.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed remains one of Pakistan’s most celebrated military heroes, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations with his courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to defending the country.
