Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday defended the provincial government’s move to restrict Qingqi rickshaws on 11 major roads in Karachi, emphasizing that the decision is administrative and legally justified, according to ARY News.
Addressing a press conference, Memon clarified that the ban is not citywide but limited to certain key roads for better traffic control and public safety. “This is strictly an administrative decision within the jurisdiction of the Sindh government,” he stated.
Responding to the Qingqi Rickshaw Association’s petition filed in the Sindh High Court, Memon rejected the allegation that the decision violates constitutional rights under Articles 9, 10, 11, and 25, calling the claims unfounded.
He also spoke about the province’s security arrangements for Muharramul Haram. Memon informed that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has consulted with religious scholars to ensure peaceful commemorations. He added that over 14,500 police officers are currently deployed for the security of majalis in Karachi, and more than 35,000 personnel will be on duty during the 8th to 10th of Muharram to ensure comprehensive security during processions.
