Saudi FM Holds First Call with Iran Since Strikes, Urges Regional De-escalation

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, marking the first official contact between the two countries since Tehran’s recent strikes on Gulf states.

According to the Saudi foreign ministry, both leaders reviewed the latest regional developments and discussed ways to reduce tensions and restore security and stability.

The call comes shortly after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the United States and Israel, raising hopes for broader de-escalation across the region.

In the wake of the truce, Prince Faisal also engaged in diplomatic outreach with his counterparts from Gulf and regional countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Türkiye, and Jordan, underscoring Riyadh’s push for coordinated regional stability.

Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire, expressing optimism that it would pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting reduction in tensions. The Kingdom emphasized the importance of respecting sovereignty and ending aggressive actions that threaten regional peace.

The statement further called for an immediate halt to attacks on Gulf nations and stressed the need to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to ensure stability in global energy flows.

Saudi Arabia also commended the diplomatic efforts of Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for their role in securing the recent ceasefire, highlighting Pakistan’s growing influence in regional mediation.

The latest diplomatic engagement signals cautious optimism as regional powers seek to prevent further escalation and move toward sustained peace.
