The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will convene in Islamabad tomorrow (May 27) to determine the sighting of the Zilhaj moon, according to state broadcaster Radio Pakistan.
This meeting will be led by Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. Zonal committees will also gather at their respective locations to assist in the nationwide moon sighting.
Earlier, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) projected that the new moon for Zilhaj 1446 AH would be born on May 27. Based on scientific calculations and astronomical observations, Eidul Azha is expected to fall on June 7.
Eidul Azha, observed on the 10th of Zilhaj, commemorates the completion of Hajj and honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice in obedience to divine command. It is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide.
