“Reading books serves as fuel for authors in life. If you want to write, establish a connection with the library,” said Spiral President Ikramul Haq.

“I have the honor of having written the Intermediate Textbook Division’s book on Library Information Science in 1976,” Dr. Raes Ahmed Samdani.

“An author always has some purpose for writing a book, compelled by which you are inclined to write it,” Dr. Farhat Hussain.

“Keeping in mind the issues faced by library professionals in the field of technology, a book based on ‘KOHA Software’ was published,” Liaquat Ali Rahoo.

Karachi (Staff Reporter): “Reading books serves as fuel for authors in life. If you want to write, establish a connection with the library because those who read move forward.” These thoughts were expressed by Ikramul Haq, President of the Society for Promotion of Reading and Improvement of Librarians (SPIRAL), while addressing online from Saudi Arabia in the second session of the “First College Librarians Symposium” held at Adamjee College Auditorium.

He said that to encourage children towards reading, it is essential to nurture this habit from home. School librarians should arrange for reading non-curricular books. The government should make books affordable, and people should make it common to gift books because this taste lasts forever. “I myself started writing books and research articles since 2006. So far, I am the author of 5 books and have published nearly 80 research articles. My next book, titled Pen, Book, and Library, is about to be published.”

On this occasion, Raes Ahmed Samdani said, “Half a century has passed while writing, and the writing journey began with the publication of the first-year Library Information Science book. I have the honor of having written the Intermediate Textbook Division’s book on Library Information Science in 1976. I advise writers that if you want to write a book, forget about financial benefits and compensation. Read, write, and love books; also make books a part of your life.”

Dr. Farhat Hussain, former Chairperson of Library Information Science at Karachi University, said, “An author always has some purpose for writing a book, compelled by which you are inclined to write it. Before joining Karachi University, I worked at Jang Group’s weekly magazine, where nearly 1,000 articles were published, after which I served as a teacher at Karachi University.”

Mehran University’s IT professional Liaquat Ali Rahoo said, “The purpose of writing the book published last month was to publish a book based on ‘KOHA Software,’ keeping in mind the issues faced by library professionals in the field of technology. This software implementation is provided to librarians free of charge so that college and university librarians can better perform their services in their respective institutions.”

Dr. Amna Khatoon said, “I compiled a directory of librarians to enhance relations and cooperation  among them, which increases unity and harmony among them.” Dr. Yusuf Ali performed the hosting duties of this session.
