LAHORE: The Punjab government has set a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcycles across the province in an effort to enhance road safety, The News reported on Friday.
This regulation was approved during the 22nd Provincial Cabinet meeting on January 14, 2025, and is being enforced under Section 75(2) of the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1960.
A notification from the Transport and Mass Transit Department, signed by Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, instructs authorities, including the Additional Inspector General of Police (Traffic) and district traffic officers, to ensure strict enforcement of the rule.
Additionally, the Punjab Emergency Services Department has been tasked with submitting fortnightly reports on motorcycle accidents for review by the Chief Minister’s Office.
To ensure public compliance, the government has emphasized the need for widespread awareness campaigns regarding the new speed limit.
