According to police sources, unidentified armed attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the checkpost located in the Harmezai region, critically injuring Hawaldar Nematullah. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Security officials said the attackers managed to escape from the scene after the assault. Following the incident, law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to trace and apprehend those involved.
The martyred officer, Hawaldar Nematullah, was described by colleagues as a seasoned and dedicated member of the police force with a strong record of professional service.
Senior police officials visited the hospital and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The Balochistan Police condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly act, and pledged that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Balochistan has witnessed a series of militant attacks in recent weeks. Earlier, security forces killed five terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Noshki following attacks on police installations in Noshki and Kachhi districts.
In another incident last week, a police head constable was martyred and several personnel, including Counter Terrorism Department officers, were injured during an exchange of fire in the Dasht area. Last month, two policemen were also killed in an attack on an Eagle Squad team in Quetta’s Eastern Bypass area.
Security officials say operations against militants will continue across the province as part of ongoing efforts to restore law and order.
