Islamabad/International Desk — Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and called for urgent international action to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and revive the two-state solution, during a preparatory meeting for the upcoming High-level International Conference on Palestine.
Addressing the meeting co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France, Pakistan lauded the initiative as both “timely and essential” in light of escalating violence, the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and continued expansion of illegal Israeli settlements.
“The systematic erosion of the two-state solution through unilateral measures demands a resolute international response,” the Pakistani representative stated.
Pakistan reiterated its long-standing position advocating for a just, lasting and comprehensive resolution based on international law, pre-1967 borders, and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
Calls for Concrete Measures Ahead of June Conference
Pakistan committed to active participation in the upcoming June Conference, pledging to provide input to the working groups and contribute to action-oriented outcomes.
The Pakistani delegation emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian steps, including:
- Restoration of a complete ceasefire in Gaza
- Lifting of the blockade
- Unimpeded humanitarian access through agencies like UNRWA
- Protection of civilians and aid workers
- Rejection of any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians or militarize aid delivery
Proposal for Monitoring Mechanism and Gaza Reconstruction
In a two-pronged proposal, Pakistan suggested:
- Establishing a mechanism to monitor and enforce key UN Security Council resolutions — including Resolutions 242, 446, and 2334 — all of which declare Israeli settlements illegal. The country also called for stepped-up diplomatic efforts to secure Palestine’s full UN membership.
- Operationalizing the Gaza Reconstruction Plan endorsed by the OIC and Arab League, including vital infrastructure projects like a Gaza–West Bank transit corridor, reconstruction of the Gaza seaport, and industrial zones to support Palestinian unity and economic viability.
End the Occupation for Lasting Peace
Stressing the root cause of the conflict, Pakistan underlined that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved by ending Israel’s prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories.
“Only by ending the occupation can we secure a just and lasting peace,” the statement concluded.
Pakistan affirmed its readiness to support the international community’s efforts in shaping a credible political horizon, centered on a viable and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
