MAJU Open House and Health Camp Reveal 60% of Students Skip Breakfast,Over 1,200 Students Participate, All Five Faculties Offer Guidance.
Karachi – Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) recently hosted an Open House event along with an admission test for the Fall 2024 semester. The event featured a medical and mental health camp, as well as sports competitions among the students. Representatives from the university’s five faculties—Computing, Business Administration, Engineering, Psychology, and English ,provided valuable guidance to attendees.
The admission test saw participation from over 1,200 students, with interviews currently underway. At the Open House, Esa Laboratory set up a medical camp where MAJU’s staff and students were offered free tests for sugar levels, cholesterol, and bone mineral density (BMD).
Dr. Rehan, a BMD specialist, expressed his gratitude to the university for the invitation, stating,”We conducted BMD tests for over 100 students and found that 60% of them do not eat breakfast. Some students even admitted to skipping meals entirely, surviving only on tea and biscuits. It’s crucial to eat breakfast to maintain academic performance. I hope the university continues to organize such camps as they provide essential health services and counseling to students.
Additionally, the Psychology Department, under the Self-Evaluation Society, organized a mental health camp. Anam, the student in charge of the camp, shared that blood group, blood pressure, and sugar tests were conducted for students, who were also provided with educational materials. “Many students were found to be struggling with depression and mental stress,” she noted. “The purpose of the camp was to offer counseling to students facing everyday challenges, in an effort to combat societal despair.
