LONDON : New research has revealed that fitness and calorie-tracking devices can create feelings of ‘shame’ in users who fail to achieve their set goals. Experts from University College London and Loughborough University analyzed thousands of posts on the social media platform X with the help of artificial intelligence. The study identified 58,881 posts related to the five most beneficial fitness apps, revealing the potential negative psychological effects of these popular tools. Later, 13,799 posts were revealed. The researchers found that when users entered unhealthy foods into the app, they felt “embarrassed,” “annoyed” by the apps’ frequent notifications, and “disappointed” by not being able to meet their goals.
