NADRA has officially discontinued its CNIC-related services at General Post Offices (GPOs) across Pakistan, citing low public response and lack of awareness as key factors. The move brings an early end to a three-year-old initiative that aimed to make NADRA services more accessible through decentralization.
Launched under a 10-year agreement with Pakistan Post, the program provided services like CNIC renewals, address changes, and marital status updates at GPO counters in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Although it initially helped reduce congestion at NADRA offices, the project struggled to gain momentum due to limited promotion and low public engagement, according to Express News.
NADRA has now instructed GPO personnel to return all equipment and submit any collected service charges. Steps are being taken to ensure that applicants with ready CNICs receive them before the counters shut down permanently. The closure affects approximately 83 service counters across Pakistan’s four provinces and Azad Kashmir.
