Karachi : Students living in hostels face numerous challenges that can take a toll on their mental health.
The pressure to perform academically, stress of being away from family, and adjusting to a new environment can lead to anxiety, depression, and feelings of loneliness. According to a study, 1 in 5 students experience anxiety or depression, and hostel life can worsen these issues.
Educational institutions must recognize the gravity of this situation and take concrete steps to
provide mental health support to their students. This includes providing access to counseling
services, organizing stress management workshops, and creating support groups for students to
share their concerns and connect with peers. Hostel staff must also be trained to identify and
respond to mental health issues.
By prioritizing mental health support, we can help students thrive in a nurturing environment that
fosters their overall well-being. It is our responsibility to ensure that students living in hostels
receive the support they need to succeed.
