I am writing because I want to draw your attention to a type of career that is not very well understood but can be highly rewarding that of becoming a musician.
In most families and community, being a musician as a career is perceived as dangerous, volatile or just as a hobby. The youth that is interested in music are often reminded and steered off towards other more secure professions. What is however not taken into account is the hard work, discipline and dedication that goes into establishing the life in music and the very high importance of the same on the society.
Being a pop star or a stage artist is not the only way to have a career in music. Nowadays, musicians are able not only to compose and produce music but also teach, work in sound-engineering, music therapy, and film, game, and commercial scoring. It has also been made possible by the digital age where independent artists are able to market their work across the world without the usual obstacles.
It is a difficult journey, as any creative profession. It involves constant education, perseverance and confidence in oneself. But to the passionate, music is not business, it is a calling. It leads to happiness, healing, and bonding, which is badly needed by the world.
It is time that we come out in support and respect of music as a good and worthy career. But, after all, what would the world be like without music– and now think about the people who give it.
