Lucky Motor, the official assembler and distributor of KIA vehicles in Pakistan, is gearing up to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of several electric SUVs, including the premium KIA EV9. This initiative represents a significant advancement in Pakistan’s transition to eco-friendly transportation.
According to Muhammad Faisal, CEO of Lucky Motor, the company plans to roll out the flagship KIA EV9 soon, with future plans to introduce the smaller EV3 model. Both vehicles will be brought into the country as completely built units (CBUs).
Following the successful debut of the KIA EV5 in October 2024— which has already been delivered to numerous customers— Faisal remains optimistic about the rising demand for EVs in Pakistan. The EV5 is available in two variants: the long-range Earth model, offering a driving range of 620 km per charge and priced at Rs23 million, and the Air model, which covers 480 km and costs Rs18.5 million.
Faisal highlighted that corporate professionals and business owners from major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad are the primary buyers of the EV5. He acknowledged that although EVs remain more expensive than conventional cars, they are gaining popularity as a symbol of status in Pakistan.
Despite the government’s push for EV adoption, including plans to install 3,500 charging stations in collaboration with a Chinese company, Faisal remains cautious about the government’s ambitious goal of achieving a 30% market share for EVs by 2030. He estimates that EVs may only account for around 10% of total sales by then.
Lucky Motor’s expansion into the electric vehicle market aligns with the growing global demand for sustainable mobility solutions, positioning the company to meet the evolving preferences of Pakistani consumers.
