Japan Grants $55,734 for New School Bus for Special Students in Karachi

KARACHI, August 20, 2026: The Government of Japan has announced a grant of up to $55,734 (PKR 15.5 million) to a local non-governmental organisation for the purchase of a new school bus for special students in Karachi.

The grant comes under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) and aims to improve access to education and specialised services for students with physical and psychological challenges.

The grant agreement was signed on Thursday at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi by Japanese Consul General HATTORI Masaru and Habiba Habib, President of the Institute of Behavioral Psychology (IBP) School of Special Education.

The new bus will allow an additional 30 students to access quality education, vocational training and specialised therapeutic services at the IBP School of Special Education.

The transport facility will provide safe and reliable door-to-door travel for students who currently face difficulties reaching school because of lengthy or challenging journeys.

The project is also expected to benefit the students’ families. With children transported safely to school, parents and other family members will have greater opportunities to pursue employment and other socio-economic activities during school hours.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Consul General HATTORI expressed hope that the Japanese assistance would generate significant social benefits and contribute to long-term economic development through support for the special education institution.

The Government of Japan said it would continue providing flexible and timely assistance to local NGOs in Pakistan through grant programmes focused on improving social wellbeing.
