Project FAME launches in Karachi to empower women with disabilities

Project FAME is launched in Karachi to promote skills, employment and economic independence for women with disabilities.
Sakan-e-Sheza Trust, in collaboration with the South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF), has launched Project FAME in Karachi.
The initiative was unveiled at the Pearl Continental Hotel. It aims to promote women’s empowerment, inclusion and economic independence.
Project FAME will run for one year. It will benefit 100 women, with a special focus on women with disabilities.
The project will help participants develop professional and vocational skills. It will also connect them with employment opportunities.
The initiative seeks to help women become economically self-reliant. It also aims to support their contribution to Pakistan’s economy.
Project FAME focuses on skills and employment
Sakan-e-Sheza Trust Founder Erum Saaim spoke at the launch ceremony. She said the project would offer structured training programmes.
Participants will also receive practical workshops. Specialized skill-development sessions will form another part of the programme.
Erum Saaim said the training would help turn participants’ potential into sustainable livelihood opportunities.
She also stressed the importance of including women and persons with disabilities in economic activities.
According to her, such inclusion can help build a stronger and more self-reliant society.
Project FAME will provide participants with market-oriented skills. These skills are expected to improve their chances of securing dignified employment.
Erum Saaim described women’s empowerment as both a social responsibility and an investment in national development.
She said greater participation by women in the workforce could create wider economic and social benefits.
Officials and community leaders attend launch
The launch ceremony attracted representatives from several sectors. Government officials, political representatives and social workers attended the event.
Women leaders and business figures were also present. Representatives of civil society and various organisations joined the gathering.
Mr Aijaz Anwar, Provincial Election Commissioner, attended as the chief guest.
Mr Farman Ali Tanwari, Regional Director of DEPD, presided over the ceremony.
Honorary shields were presented to several guests. They included Aijaz Anwar and Farman Ali Tanwari.
Tuaha Ahmed Farooqi, Secretary DEPD, also received an honorary shield. Fahad Shafiq, Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, was also recognised.
Jawaid Rais, President DWA and recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, received a shield as well.
The honours recognised their leadership and support for inclusion. They also acknowledged their commitment to women’s empowerment.
Stakeholders back equal economic opportunities
Souvenirs were presented to several other guests at the ceremony. They included Tahir Mansoor Khan and Syed Abdullah Shah.
Hallar Manzoor Wassan, Dr Shariq Jamal and Naseer Ahmed also received souvenirs.
Abdul Waseem, Kashif Sabrani and Yousuf Qureshi were among the other recipients. Maqsood Faraz and Intikhab Mirza were also recognised.
Participants and stakeholders welcomed the launch of Project FAME. They described it as an important platform for promoting equal economic opportunities.
The initiative also seeks to highlight the abilities and potential of women with disabilities.
Project FAME aims to create greater opportunities for women to participate in Pakistan’s social and economic development.
