Islamabad – Torrential monsoon rains and devastating cloudbursts have unleashed flash floods and landslides across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Kashmir (AJK), causing large-scale destruction and loss of life.

According to officials, KPK is the worst-hit region, with more than 300 fatalities, particularly in Buner and Swat, where entire villages were swept away. Homes, bridges, and roads have collapsed, leaving thousands displaced and several valleys completely cut off from the rest of the province.

In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, at least 20 people have lost their lives, while floods and landslides have damaged key roads, stranding tourists and isolating communities. Rescue and relief operations led by the Pakistan Army, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and local authorities are ongoing, but heavy rains and washed-out routes are hampering access to the worst-affected areas.

The federal and provincial governments have announced financial aid packages and deployed medical teams. Meanwhile, several private welfare organizations and NGOs are on the ground, providing food, shelter, and medical assistance to survivors.

How to Help

Currently, the government has not set up an official national relief fund, but a number of trusted organizations are actively collecting donations to support the victims. Relief agencies emphasize that cash donations are the most effective way to help, as they allow quicker purchase of essentials and easier logistics compared to physical goods.

At the same time, authorities have urged the public to beware of fraudulent groups and fake donation drives, and to contribute only through reliable and recognized organizations.
