Karachi, October 27, 2025 : Member (Incharge) Federal Ombudsman Karachi, Amir Ahmed Sheikh, along with Associate Advisor Moula Bux Shiekh and Director Rashid Ahmed Shiekh visited Karachi Cantt and City Railway Stations to review facilities provided to passengers and assess overall service standards.

During the visit, Deputy Superintendent (DS) Karachi, Hameed Ahmed Lakho, briefed the delegation on the operational structure and performance of the Karachi Division of Pakistan Railways. He stated that Karachi, being one of the seven administrative divisions of Pakistan Railways and the country’s largest port city, plays a central role in rail transportation. A total of 18 pairs of interprovincial trains, 4 pairs of intercity trains, 2 pairs of passenger trains within Karachi, and 10 up and 10 down freight trains operate daily from this division.

The inspection team was informed that Karachi Cantt Railway Station, established in 1898, remains one of the busiest stations in Pakistan. The station consists of 8 platforms, 11 working lines, and 26 vending stalls. Thirteen trains originate from the station each day, catering to a passenger footfall of nearly 30,000 to 35,000 people, while the station generates an approximate revenue of Rs. 11 million per day.

During the inspection, the delegation visited the newly established CIP Lounge, designed to offer enhanced waiting facilities to passengers at a nominal fee of Rs. 300. The lounge has been developed to provide a cleaner, more comfortable environment equipped with seating and essential amenities.

Amir Ahmed Sheikh appreciated the efforts of the railway management for continuing to provide services to passengers despite limited resources. He emphasized the importance of passenger comfort, courteous behavior by staff, and better facilitation especially for senior citizens, women, and families traveling long distances.

Mr. Amir Ahmed Shiekh interacted with passengers and inquired their views on service delivery and their suggestions to improve the services.

He further advised the administration to ensure the upkeep of public facilities, maintain cleanliness, improve passenger guidance systems, and strengthen complaint and redressal mechanisms at the stations.

Associate Advisor Moula Bux Sheikh highlighted that the Federal Ombudsman’s office serves to protect public rights and provides citizens with a platform to seek redressal against maladministration.

He urged railway authorities to continue working with dedication to enhance service delivery and passenger experience.
