Karachi: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Mr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Member National Assembly Mr. Aminul Haque and former Vice Admiral Pakistan Navy Mr. Arifullah Hussaini visited the IBA city campus to interact with the students of Youth Employment Project (YEP).
Program Director IBA AMAN CED, Dr. Shahid Qureshi apprised the guests about the different programs of entrepreneurship offered at the center. He introduced the students of Batch 3 of YEP who belonged to the semi-urban areas of Karachi i.e. Korangi, Malir, Lyari, Sultanabad, North Karachi etc. having some technical and vocational background. Dr. Qureshi explained that at IBA AMAN CED, the emphasis is on developing an entrepreneurial mindset to search for low-cost solutions of the problems, and then to transform them into sustainable business models.
Mr. Hussaini also addressed the students talking about the contribution they can make in shaping the future of Pakistan.
Mr. Siddiqui thanked Dr. Qureshi for sharing an effectuation and E+ model. He mentioned that IT is revolutionizing, and needs to integrate advanced technology in all sorts of business processes. He was overwhelmed and highly pleased to visualize the united efforts of UNDP Pakistan and the IBA under the YEP. He hoped that the center would continue its assiduous efforts in building an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth. Project Manager UNDP Pakistan, Mr. Moin Zaidi stated that the youth was facing a challenge to convert their skill set into a proper business setup. He further said, “The IBA AMAN CED has been catering to the needs of creating self-employment in Pakistan through its indigenous entrepreneurship pedagogy and the training material.”
The students of YEP shared their success stories and talked about the benefits of the course. An IBA AMAN CED student, Mr. Saad Tariq Hameed shared his entrepreneurial journey. He started an online tutoring business on Udemy with US$ 500 and was earning US$ 7,000 (approx.) per month. He further said, “In today’s technological environment, starting an online business with zero investment has become a possibility.”
