As part of the fiscal measures under the Finance Bill 2025–26, the government has revised the threshold for imposing higher withholding tax on cash withdrawals by non-filers. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced that the daily limit for these withdrawals will now be increased from Rs50,000 to Rs75,000.
In addition to the revised limit, the withholding tax rate for non-filers will also be adjusted from 0.6% to 0.8%, correcting an earlier error in the budget speech that had incorrectly stated the rate as 1%.
The update was shared by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial during a session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, held at Parliament House. While Committee Chairman Naveed Qamar proposed raising the threshold to Rs100,000, a compromise was reached at Rs75,000.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Langrial clarified that the previously stated 1% rate was a mistake. “The accurate proposed rate is 0.8%,” he confirmed.
