FBR launches the Asaan Tajir App to simplify tax registration for small traders

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a mobile application to simplify tax registration and filing for small traders and shopkeepers under the Fixed Tax Asaan Scheme.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb launched the app at the FBR headquarters on Wednesday. He also renewed his call for a simpler tax return form for salaried taxpayers.

Asaan Tajir App for Small Traders

The Asaan Tajir app offers traders a simplified tax form in Urdu. Users can register through the application and generate a Payment Slip Identification Number (PSID) to pay their tax digitally.

After payment, the app will confirm registration and updated filer status. It will also provide information about benefits available under the scheme.

Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar said the app would soon become available on Apple’s App Store. The government also plans to introduce Pashto, Balochi and Sindhi versions by the first week of September.

Traders who need assistance can visit designated focal offices and Regional Tax Offices in their districts.

Green Identification Plate

FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial also highlighted a new green identification plate for registered traders.

Traders who register before the tax-filing deadline will receive the plate free of charge. Its future cost is expected to remain below Rs1,500.

Langrial said the plate would help identify bona fide registered businesses. He added that FBR officials would not enter such shops for routine tax matters.

Pakistan Seeks US Exchange Support

Finance Minister Aurangzeb also confirmed that Pakistan has formally requested a US Exchange Stabilisation Support Facility.

The facility aims to strengthen the rupee, support foreign exchange reserves and reduce dependence on repeated loan rollovers.

According to the minister, discussions with the United States are underway. Pakistan expects a response from the US Treasury or US Exim Bank by the end of September 2026.

The reported request is for around $10 billion. The government views the facility primarily as a way to strengthen confidence in the rupee and Pakistan’s external financial position.

Aurangzeb also said Pakistan was exploring longer debt maturities of five, seven and 10 years. The move could reduce pressure from frequent bilateral loan rollovers.
