Washington D.C. USA : The FBI Washington Field Office released a missing persons poster of Mahmood Shah Habibi, an Afghan-American businessman who disappeared in Afghanistan in 2022. The release of the poster is part of the FBI’s ongoing investigation into Habibi’s disappearance and our commitment to bringing him home to his family.
At the time of his disappearance, Habibi, Afghanistan’s former director of civil aviation, worked as a consultant for Asia Consultancy Group, a Kabul-based telecommunications company. On August 10, 2022, he was taken from his vehicle near his home in Kabul City, Afghanistan, along with his driver. He was allegedly detained by the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence along with 29 other Asia Consultancy Group employees.
“Three years have passed since Habibi was taken, and the FBI and our partners remain as dedicated as ever to finding him,” said Joshua Stone, special agent in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office’s Counterterrorism Division. “We implore anyone who may have information to come forward and share it, so we can reunite Mahmood with his family.”
Habibi has not been heard from since his arrest and the Taliban has not provided information about his condition or whereabouts. All the detainees except for Habibi and one other have been freed.
