This week FBI Director Christopher Wray visited the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office, which covers the counties of Accomack, Chesapeake, Eastern Shore, Norfolk, Northampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. During the visit, Director Wray met with local law enforcement partners to reiterate the FBI’s commitment to them, the value of task forces, and discussed how to better combat violent crime in the area.

During the trip, Director Wray also participated in a press conference where he thanked one of FBI Norfolk’s biggest community partners, the FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association.

In his remarks, Director Wray said, “Strong partnerships are essential to the Bureau’s mission, and building bridges between law enforcement and the communities we’re sworn to serve and protect is crucial to fulfill that mission. We all have the same goal—to keep our communities safe. And the best way to do that is by working together.”

Director Wray also addressed members of the local media about the biggest national security concerns we’ve seen in the area, violent crime, human trafficking, and FBI personnel morale and recruitment.

Before departing Hampton Roads, the Director also had a speaking engagement at Christopher Newport University on Thursday, February 16, 2023, to discuss cyber threats and partnerships during a homeland security symposium.
