Expo 2020 Dubai opened its doors to the world on the 1st of October 2021, it goes right up till the 31st of March 2022. Around 192 countries are participating in the event and 25 million people from around the globe are expected to visit the various pavilions. Pakistan is one of them and Balochistan has been allowed the month of October 2021.
Choosing the theme ‘The Wonders of Balochistan’, the largest province of Pakistan is representing its people, culture, languages, natural resources and business opportunities; in a bedazzling array of events, folk performances and cultural shows, along with a host of business seminars, which are a key area of focus for Balochistan to showcase its immense investment and business potential to the world.
In line with this, a Seminar on Hi Tech Business Opportunities in Balochistan was held on the 20th of October at the Pakistan Pavilion, Expo 2021 Dubai, titled Hi-Tech Business Opportunities in Balochistan – STZs and IT Parks. The honourable speakers from Pakistan were; Mr. Roshan Ali Shaikh – Secretary Science and IT, Mr. Jawad Ahmed – Director IT, Mr. Syed Akbar Ashfaq – Executive Director ECIL. Mr. Asghar Arifal, Secretary Culture & Tourism Government of Balochistan was the chief guest.
Mr. Roshan Ali Shaikh – Secretary Science and IT, in his opening remarks said that the theme of Pakistan at the Expo ‘The Hidden Treasure’ is not just a phrase, it is a reality’. Mr. Jawad Ahmed – Director IT, talked about the unlimited scope and potential Balochistan has to offer to Hi Tech businesses with the possibility of developing Special Technology Zones and IT Parks in Quetta, Gwadar and Hub and how The Triple Helix Model of Innovation has worked for the world. Syed Akbar Ashfaq talked about why in particular, Pakistan requires these STZs for an accelerated digital eco-system.
In the end the honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Asghar Arifal thanked the packed conference room in the Pakistan pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai for their participation and hoped for the best outcome of the seminar. The honorable guests and speakers were awarded souvenirs and giveaways as a gesture of appreciation.
The seminar was part of a series seminars being conducted by the Government of Balochistan throughout the month of October 2021.
