Tom Cruise returns as Cole Trickle in the upcoming Days of Thunder sequel with Anne Hathaway joining the cast.
Days of Thunder Sequel is officially moving forward, with Tom Cruise set to return as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and Anne Hathaway joining the cast.
Paramount Pictures has scheduled the film for release on June 2, 2028, marking nearly four decades since the original racing drama reached cinemas.
Cruise confirmed the project by sharing a promotional image showing himself and Hathaway at a racetrack beside a green-and-yellow No. 46 stock car.
Anne Hathaway joins the racing drama
Hathaway will reportedly play a race team owner and engineer opposite Cruise.
Her character will bring her directly into the competitive world of NASCAR. However, filmmakers have not yet revealed further details about her role or her character’s connection with Cole Trickle.
The production has also kept the main storyline under wraps.

The sequel will explore the next chapter of Trickle’s story many years after audiences first met the ambitious racing driver.
Cruise returns as Cole Trickle
The original Days of Thunder, released in 1990, followed Cole Trickle as he attempted to establish himself in NASCAR despite his limited experience in stock car racing.
Cruise starred alongside Robert Duvall, Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly.
The film became one of the best-known motorsport dramas of its era and established Cole Trickle as one of Cruise’s memorable screen characters.
Jonathan Levine to direct
Jonathan Levine will direct the Days of Thunder Sequel.
Cruise will also serve as a producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.
The filmmakers have not announced further casting details.
They have also not revealed how the story will address the decades that have passed since the events of the original film.
