BEIJING : Chinese drone company E-Hang Egret set a new world record by flying 22,580 drones simultaneously during a spectacular light show. The demonstration was held in Hefei, Anhui province. Earlier, various Chinese companies had set records with more than 11,000 and 15,000 drones, but E-Hang Egret controlled thousands of drones simultaneously using AI-powered ‘swarm intelligence’ technology and surprisingly there were no collisions. The light show featured three-dimensional Chinese lanterns, urban scenes and intricate designs in the sky. Although about 25 drones failed to take off, the remaining units provided enough numbers to set a Guinness World Record. According to experts, the demonstration not only demonstrates China’s superiority in drone technology but is also a means of expressing power.
