China has revealed two prototype sixth-generation stealth fighters, potentially surpassing the capabilities of the J-20.

The Chengdu design stands out with its large size, tailless configuration, and unique three-engine setup, while the Shenyang prototype features a more compact and traditional fighter-like design.

Despite their impressive appearances, these prototypes have yet to display the defining characteristics of sixth-generation technology, and it remains uncertain if they will evolve into operational aircraft.

Chengdu’s arrowhead-shaped stealth jet was observed taking off from the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation headquarters in Sichuan province. It was followed by the two-seat J-20S stealth fighter—the only two-seat stealth fighter in the world—which likely assisted in gathering test flight data.

The prototype’s serial number, J36001, has fueled speculation that it may be designated the J-36. Notably, the side-by-side flight suggests this prototype is significantly larger than the J-20, which measures nearly 70 feet in length.
