Islamabad: The Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP) has called for urgent regulatory reforms to ensure transparency in retail pricing and strengthen consumer protection across the country.
Chairman CAP, Kaukab Iqbal, met with Farid Ahmad Tarar at the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) office in Islamabad, where they discussed key issues related to consumer rights, fair competition, and market transparency.
During the meeting, Kaukab Iqbal raised serious concerns over the absence of printed retail prices on several consumer food items in the market. He stated that the lack of clearly marked pricing on packaging creates confusion for consumers and weakens transparency in the retail sector.
He strongly demanded the expansion of the Third Schedule to include all major consumer goods, particularly cooking oil, infant formula milk, dairy products, and frozen food items. He emphasized that mandatory printing of retail prices on all consumer products is essential to protect consumers from unfair pricing practices and ensure clarity in the marketplace.
Kaukab Iqbal further urged the Competition Commission of Pakistan to take up the matter with the government and recommend appropriate regulatory measures, ensuring that manufacturers and companies are legally bound to display clear retail prices on every product.
Farid Ahmad Tarar appreciated the continued efforts of CAP in advocating for consumer rights and raising public awareness. He assured full cooperation in strengthening consumer protection mechanisms and promoting fair competition practices in Pakistan.
On the occasion, Kaukab Iqbal also extended an invitation to the CCP Chairman to participate in the upcoming 17th Consumers Food Safety & Quality Conference 2026, scheduled to be held at the Grand Ballroom, Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi. The conference will bring together policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders, academics, researchers, and consumer rights organizations to discuss food safety standards, quality assurance, and consumer protection challenges.
The meeting was also attended by Asfandyar Khattak, Director General Media at CCP.
