The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that there are no plans to impose new taxes on solar panels or raise existing ones.
While tax exemptions in several sectors are currently under review, Chairman Langrial emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting key areas such as renewable energy and education, which are vital for sustainable development. He also mentioned that the Senate Standing Committee on Finance has approved the Income Tax Second Amendment Bill 2025, which aims to boost revenue collection without increasing the burden on vulnerable communities. However, the IMF recently recommended scrapping all tax exemptions, including those benefiting the solar panel sector, to move toward a more streamlined taxation system.
