Karachi : Pakistan Peoples Party provincial leader, Member of the Sindh Assembly, and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh for Minority Affairs, Dr. Sham Sundar K. Advani, has said that April 4 is one of the darkest days in Pakistan’s political history, when the country’s first elected Prime Minister, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was removed from power by a military ruler, General Zia-ul-Haq, through undemocratic means, subjected to imprisonment, and later executed following a controversial judicial decision.

In his statement, he said that Shaheed Bhutto was a visionary leader who placed Pakistan on the path of development, sovereignty, and public welfare. However, dictatorship halted that journey and pushed the country into darkness. He added that the incident was not only a severe blow to democracy but also to the people’s right to rule, the effects of which are still clearly visible in the country’s politics and democratic system.
Dr. Sham Sundar K. Advani further stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party remains committed to completing the mission of its founding leader and that the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhutto can never be forgotten. He said that April 4 serves as a day to renew the pledge to continue the struggle for democracy, supremacy of the Constitution, and protection of public rights.
