KARACHI: Classes for the new session of BDS year 2023 at Dow Dental College, Dow International Dental College and Dr. Ishratul Ibad Institute of Oral Health Sciences began on Tuesday, 7th February. While addressing the ceremony of orientation day held at Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium of Dow International Medical College, Ojha Campus, Vice Chancellor Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, has shared his thoughts as a Chief Guest, that research is the need for today. In the field of research, we encourage our students and provide all possible help because research is the only tool that helps fight diseases and opens new avenues of knowledge. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Sara Kazi, Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq, Dean Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Shahjahan Katpar, Principal of Dow International Medical College Prof. Zeba Haque, Principal of Dow Dental College Dr. Arshad, Principal of Dow International Dental College Prof. Amina Tariq and Principal of Dr. Ishratul Abad Institute of Oral Health Sciences, Professor Anwar Ali along with senior staff members and students were present on the occasion.
Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy said, when Dow Medical College was founded in 1945, a century ago, the aim was to provide the education of MBBS. But over time, attention has been paid to all areas of scientific education in view of social needs, and today we are considering setting up the Fine Arts Department. He added that the BDS’s four-year program trains their students in the best way, so that they can become proficient in professional skills. He said that we have the best faculty of Pakistan which consists of PhDs teachers. He congratulated the new students on being part of Dow University and said all this was possible because of your hard work, passion, dedication and parental interest.
An oath was taken from the students on the occasion to serve humanity without discrimination. The principals of the three colleges informed the students about the course syllabus in detail, adding that we also encourage our students to participate in extra-curricular activities. Dow University organizes the inter-university sports week annually, in which all students can participate.
