Defense Minister Khawaja Asif says that Imran Khan regrets to appoint an army chief of his choice, appointing an army chief is the constitutional and legal authority of the government and it will fulfill this right.
Speaking on Geo News’ program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Saath Mein’, Khawaja Asif said that two and a half months are left for the appointment of the Army Chief, and the process of considering it has not even started yet.
Khawaja Asif said that Imran Khan is making this issue controversial under a well-thought-out plan.
It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had proposed the extension of the current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Chairman PTI had said in an interview that Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari are not eligible to appoint a new army chief, the issue of appointing a new army chief should be postponed until the new government comes.
Imran Khan has proposed that the new government should choose the new army chief.
