The sudden death of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Prime Minister H.E Hamed Bakayoko due to Cancer on March 10, 2021. The body of the Ivory Coast’s late prime minister Hamed Bakayoko arrived in Abidjan on Saturday from Germany. Bakayoko was flown to France in February for medical tests and was later transferred to Germany due to his deteriorating health. The official’s programme of tributes from the nation on Wednesday and buried in a private ceremony on Friday in strict privacy of the family. The national mourning triggered by a death that stunned the West African country.
On July 08, 2020, Bakayoko became Acting Prime Minister when 61-year-old, Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly who had heart surgery in 2012, became unwell during a weekly cabinet meeting and was taken to a hospital where he passed away on July 8, 2020. Then Hamed Bakayoko succeeded Amadou Gon Coulibaly as Prime Minister in July 2020. The 79-year-old Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara announced via Twitter that Bakayoko died on 10 March 2021, at the age of 56. Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara described Mr. Bakayoko as a “great statesman, an example to young people and a man of exemplary loyalty”.
