LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif’s wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London after a months-long battle with cancer reported.
The lady, who remained an active political worker till 2017, was battling throat cancer in London’s Harley Street Clinic since June.
Body will be brought back to the country for a funeral ceremony and burial in Lahore city.
Her husband and daughter, who are serving jail time in compliance with a July 6 court order in Avenfield reference case, are expected to be released on parole to participate in her funeral.
Born into a Kashmiri family in Lahore, Kulsoom Nawaz attended Islamia College and graduated from the Forman Christian College in Lahore.
She received a master’s degree in Urdu from the University of the Punjab in 1970.
She married Nawaz Sharif, the three-time Prime Minister of Pakistan, in April 1971. She had four children: Maryam, Asma, Hassan and Hussain.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Kulsoom Nawaz.
In a statement, he directed that all facilities should be provided to the family and heirs of Kulsoom Nawaz as per law. The PM directed Pakistani High Commission in London to assist in provision of all necessary facilities to the heirs of the deceased.
