HugoBank Begins Internal Pilot of Digital Banking Platform

HugoBank begins its internal pilot as it prepares for future commercial banking operations.
HugoBank has started onboarding approved internal participants onto its digital banking platform, marking a step towards the launch of its commercial operations.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has permitted the bank to begin limited-scale pilot activities as a Digital Retail Bank under a restricted licence.
HugoBank opened its first pilot customer account on September 25, 2026. This marked the start of customer onboarding within the scope approved by the regulator.
Bank Tests Core Digital Services
During the limited pilot phase, HugoBank is assessing different aspects of its banking operations. These include account opening, transactions, customer support and the performance of routine banking activities.

The bank is gathering feedback from participants and reviewing insights from actual operations. It aims to identify areas for improvement, increase service efficiency and strengthen its readiness for full-scale commercial operations.
HugoBank Focuses on Accessible Digital Banking
A HugoBank spokesperson said the bank aims to make banking services more accessible and easier to use across Pakistan.
“Every new account provides us with an opportunity to assess how effectively our technology, processes, and teams work together. We will use the insights gained from these experiences to further improve our services and provide customers with secure, reliable, and high-quality banking facilities,” the bank said.
The bank added that feedback from the pilot would help it improve its technology, operational processes and customer services.
Public Launch Subject to Regulatory Approval
HugoBank is currently onboarding only approved internal participants. The pilot does not represent a public launch of its banking services.
The bank’s broader commercial launch will remain subject to the relevant regulatory approvals. It will announce services for the general public in line with the applicable regulatory requirements.
