Sharjeel Memon meets Karachi Press Club office-bearers and discusses journalists’ concerns.
KARACHI, September 30, 2026: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon visited the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday at the invitation of its office-bearers.
Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli and Secretary General Aslam Khan welcomed the minister. Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas and other office-bearers were also present.
Memon met the Press Club representatives and heard their concerns. He assured them that the issues raised would be taken up for resolution.
The minister later attended a luncheon hosted in his honour by the Karachi Press Club.
Memon Discusses Press Freedom
Speaking to the media, Memon thanked the Karachi Press Club for hosting the meeting.
He said the discussions covered several issues facing journalists. He also highlighted the role of the media in a democratic society.
Memon said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had supported press freedom and journalists’ welfare.

He specifically praised former president Asif Ali Zardari for his role in this area.
Memon said journalists and political parties both have a role in strengthening democracy. He called for continued cooperation between the two groups.
Sindh Vision Programme Planned
Memon said the Sindh government was considering programmes in Tharparkar and Sukkur under the Sindh Vision initiative.
He said November 15 to 17 had been proposed as tentative dates. The schedule could change because of other engagements and prevailing circumstances.
A ceremony and Press Club programme are planned in Sukkur.
Memon said journalists from across Pakistan would be invited. He said the programme would provide an opportunity for journalists to meet in Sukkur.
Government Highlights Development Plans
Memon also spoke about development projects in Sindh.
He said the construction of 2.1 million houses had received international appreciation.
He also said some Sindh government projects had received international recognition. According to Memon, several projects had also secured places in Guinness World Records.
He said the government was seeking more projects that meet international standards.
Memon added that a modern stadium in Sukkur was under consideration. The project could involve private-sector companies and sponsors.
Focus on Investment and Technology
Memon said the government was promoting government-to-government cooperation.
He also highlighted cooperation through other channels.
The minister said Pakistan needed foreign investment and modern technology. He said the government was taking steps to attract international companies.
Memon called for collective efforts to support economic development.
He also urged citizens to promote positive attitudes and national unity.
Minister Discusses Terrorism Threat
Memon said Pakistan faced security challenges linked to regional developments.
He said terrorism remained a major challenge for the country.
The minister recalled the sacrifices of PPP workers and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in terrorism-related incidents.
He also referred to the Army Public School tragedy in Peshawar. He called the deaths of children an unforgettable national tragedy.
Memon said security institutions and the public must work together against terrorism.
University Road Work Nears Completion
During the question-and-answer session, Memon discussed Karachi’s transport situation.
He said the Sindh Transport Department was taking steps to improve public transport facilities.
He also discussed ongoing work on University Road.
Memon said measures were being taken to improve traffic flow. He said the remaining work would be completed after the required procedures.
Recent reporting has also quoted Memon as saying that work on University Road was nearing completion. He previously said the remaining work could take about another month or two.
He said commercial traffic on the road had largely resumed.
Memon also referred to the Mosamiyat Flyover, which he recently inaugurated as part of the Red Line BRT project. The flyover was scheduled to open for public use after the required formalities.
Memon Urges Public to Avoid Fake News
The minister urged people to avoid spreading unverified information.
He said accurate information should be provided about transport projects and government measures.
Memon said misinformation could create confusion among citizens. He called for responsible reporting and communication.
Comments on Political Protests
Memon said the PPP’s long march was aimed at highlighting inflation and public issues.
He described the party’s past protest movement as a peaceful political struggle.
He said political protest was a democratic right. However, he urged political workers to remain peaceful.
Memon said protests should not create unnecessary difficulties for citizens.
He also said the government had a responsibility to protect public life and property during demonstrations.
The minister said violence, arson and vandalism could not be permitted in the name of protest.
He urged political leaders to follow legal and constitutional channels. He also said citizens could approach courts for relief in legal matters.
Memon Comments on Zardari-Naqvi Meeting
Asked about reports of a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Memon said the meeting had not been officially confirmed.
He said some reports were based on unnamed sources.
Memon added that an official meeting would normally be followed by an official report or photograph.
He therefore advised against treating unconfirmed reports as established facts.
