Pakistan’s IT Exports Gain Global Edge as Payoneer Highlights Reliable Payouts

Rising technology exports and stronger cross-border payment systems could help Pakistani SMEs expand internationally while boosting formal foreign exchange inflows.

Pakistan IT exports and digital businesses benefit from global cross-border payment infrastructure.

Pakistan’s growing technology sector looks to stronger global payment infrastructure to support export growth.

Pakistan IT exports continued to show strong momentum in 2025–26, with export remittances increasing 19.7 per cent year-on-year and generating a trade surplus of $2.91 billion, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey.

The growth comes as Pakistani technology companies, digital agencies, e-commerce businesses and software exporters increasingly target international markets. As these businesses expand beyond the domestic economy, access to reliable cross-border payment infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important part of their operations.

Payoneer said dependable international payment systems can help small and medium-sized businesses manage multiple currencies, control costs and maintain the working capital needed to support overseas growth.

Through its global financial infrastructure, Payoneer enables eligible businesses in Pakistan to receive payments in major currencies, send payment requests, manage funds and make payments to international suppliers and contractors.

The company’s connections with local banks and financial institutions also allow businesses to transfer international earnings into Pakistan’s banking system through local withdrawals.

Payment infrastructure becomes key to global expansion

Nagesh Devata, senior vice president and head of APAC at Payoneer, said Pakistani businesses had the talent and ambition required to compete in international markets but needed financial systems capable of supporting that expansion.

“Pakistan’s businesses have the capabilities, ambition and talent to compete globally,” Devata said.

He added that simplifying the process of receiving, managing and using international payments could help businesses turn overseas sales into more predictable working capital and support long-term growth.

The comments come as Pakistan’s digital economy continues to develop, with the number of IT and IT-enabled services companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan also recording significant growth.

For technology exporters, efficient access to international revenues can be particularly important because businesses often operate across several markets while paying contractors, suppliers and service providers in different currencies.

SMEs could benefit from stronger cross-border payments

A more efficient payment ecosystem could also have implications beyond individual technology companies.

Payoneer said stronger payment infrastructure could encourage businesses to formally record export receipts, improve SME cash flows and allow more companies to participate in international trade.

For Pakistan, greater formalisation of export earnings could also support foreign exchange inflows and strengthen the connection between the country’s growing digital sector and its wider banking system.

The expansion of technology exports has created new opportunities for Pakistani businesses selling software, digital services and online products abroad. However, sustaining that growth will depend not only on international demand but also on the ability of businesses to receive and manage their earnings efficiently.

With Pakistan’s ICT sector continuing to expand, reliable cross-border financial infrastructure is increasingly becoming part of the country’s broader effort to strengthen digital exports and help small and medium-sized businesses compete in global markets.
