New Delhi: A five-storey residential building in Delhi has collapsed, leaving dozens of students feared trapped beneath the rubble. The incident took place in the Satya Niketan area of south-west Delhi on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses told local media that up to 50 people may have been inside the building when it collapsed at around 13:30 local time.
According to NDTV, citing local police, at least one person has died. Two others are reportedly in critical condition. Meanwhile, six people have been rescued from the debris.

The reports have raised hopes that more people could still be rescued. However, the unstable structure and heavy debris are making the operation difficult.
Students Were Staying at the Hostel
The collapsed building, known as Hostel Daze, was being used as accommodation for students. It is located a short distance from the Delhi University campus.
Many students were reportedly inside their rooms when the building came down. There were no regular classes on Sunday, which meant more students may have been at the hostel.
The building was reportedly undergoing construction work in its basement before the collapse.
Nearby Building Also Reportedly Collapsed
Eyewitnesses also told local media that another building beside the hostel had collapsed.
Authorities are assessing the surrounding structures as rescue operations continue. Officials will also be expected to investigate whether the construction work contributed to the collapse.
The cause of the incident has not yet been officially established.
Investigation Expected
Building collapses remain a serious concern in densely populated parts of India. Construction work and structural safety are often closely examined following such incidents.
For now, rescuers remain focused on locating survivors. Authorities are expected to provide further details as the operation progresses.
The number of casualties could change as emergency teams continue searching the site.
