Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Relations Zardari, Zhaparov Agree to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations moved forward as President Asif Ali Zardari and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov agreed to deepen their strategic partnership. The leaders focused on expanding trade, investment, energy cooperation and regional connectivity during President Zardari’s official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic from July 6 to 9.

According to a joint statement, both presidents expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in bilateral ties. They also reaffirmed their commitment to implementing agreements signed during President Zhaparov’s visit to Pakistan in December 2025.
Stronger Economic Partnership
The two leaders agreed to increase political engagement through regular high-level meetings. They also directed their governments to accelerate practical cooperation in trade, investment and business development.
Both sides pledged to improve the performance of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. They encouraged direct contacts between the business communities of both countries.
Focus on Energy and Connectivity
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan highlighted the importance of the CASA-1000 project for strengthening regional energy links. They agreed to speed up its implementation to improve connectivity between Central Asia and South Asia.
The leaders also agreed to enhance cooperation in transport, logistics and transit. They said stronger transport links would increase cargo movement and support regional trade.
New Opportunities for Investment
The two countries identified mining, agriculture, textiles, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology, tourism, banking and the halal industry as priority sectors for future cooperation.
In the pharmaceutical sector, both sides agreed to cooperate in medical education, vaccine production, biological products and regulatory harmonisation. They also encouraged joint ventures and easier market access.
Cooperation on Security
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism, extremism, organised crime, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking and irregular migration.
The two countries agreed to continue working together through the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to promote regional peace and stability.
Support at the United Nations
President Sadyr Zhaparov thanked Pakistan for supporting Kyrgyzstan’s successful election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.
Kyrgyzstan also praised Pakistan’s contributions as a current non-permanent member of the Security Council. It welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.
Both leaders stressed that countries should resolve disputes through dialogue and international law. They also opposed unilateral sanctions, saying such measures undermine global development and economic stability.
Invitation to World Nomad Games
Kyrgyzstan invited Pakistan to participate in the VI World Nomad Games, scheduled from August 31 to September 7, 2026. Pakistan accepted the invitation and confirmed it would send a high-level delegation and national sports teams.
President Zardari thanked President Zhaparov and the people of Kyrgyzstan for their warm hospitality. He also invited the Kyrgyz president to visit Pakistan. President Zhaparov accepted the invitation, and both sides will finalise the dates through diplomatic channels.
