ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

During the visit, President Pezeshkian will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold formal talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, are also scheduled to meet the visiting leader.

This marks Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan as president of Iran.

Focus on bilateral cooperation

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the visit will allow both countries to review the full range of bilateral relations.

Talks are expected to cover trade, energy cooperation, border security, regional connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.

Officials will also discuss recent diplomatic engagement following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The Foreign Office said both countries remain committed to strengthening historic and cultural ties and supporting peace and stability in the region.

Red Zone closed and work-from-home announced

Authorities introduced special arrangements in Islamabad ahead of the visit.

The Islamabad High Court cancelled judicial work for Tuesday because of Red Zone restrictions.

Court officials were directed to work remotely, while district courts continued normal operations.

The Federal Constitutional Court also suspended judicial proceedings at its principal seat in Islamabad.

Government offices located inside the Red Zone shifted to work-from-home arrangements for one day.

Several ministries and autonomous bodies were included in the order.

However, key institutions and federal banking services remained operational.

Security tightened across the capital

Authorities closed bus terminals across Islamabad as part of security measures.

Transport hubs at Faizabad and Chongi No 26 suspended operations.

Officials said terminals will reopen after the Iranian president’s departure.

Authorities also sealed the Red Zone and limited entry to authorised personnel only.

Islamabad’s district administration ordered the closure of major hiking routes, including Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4 and Trail 5 until further notice.

Visit follows diplomatic talks in Switzerland

President Pezeshkian’s visit comes after recent direct talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland.

The discussions launched negotiations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18.

According to participating officials, the agreement established a framework for further negotiations over the next 60 days.

The talks also created channels for continued technical discussions and mechanisms to reduce regional tensions.

Participants agreed to maintain communication aimed at protecting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and preventing renewed fighting in Lebanon.

Diplomatic engagement is expected to continue throughout the week.
