KARACHI: Industrialists of the SITE Association of Industry have expressed deep concern over worsening law and order conditions, including rising incidents of extortion, factory robberies, and encroachments in the industrial zone, urging authorities to ensure a secure and stable business environment for uninterrupted economic activity.

The concerns were raised during a meeting held at the SITE Association office with Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho, where industrialists briefed him on the deteriorating security situation and demanded immediate and effective measures to protect industries. Senior police officials, association office-bearers, and a large number of members attended the session.

SITE Association President Abdul Rehman Fudda strongly condemned a recent firing incident targeting an industrialist in North Karachi reportedly linked to extortion demands. He stressed that the safety of the business community must be guaranteed and highlighted the issue of widespread encroachments in the SITE industrial area. The IG assured participants that encroachments would be removed permanently and strict action would be taken against extortion networks.

Patron-in-Chief Zubair Motiwala raised concerns over reluctance among citizens to register FIRs due to conditions at police stations, suggesting reforms to improve accessibility of justice. He also pointed out severe traffic congestion issues affecting industrial logistics and highlighted damage to infrastructure caused by aerial firing at events.

Other industrial representatives proposed strengthening the Crime Monitoring Cell, increasing police patrol vehicles, removing encroachments permanently, and improving traffic management through dedicated truck parking and restricted heavy vehicle movement during peak hours. They also suggested the expansion of the Safe City initiative within the SITE industrial area, including enhanced CCTV surveillance.

Law and Order Committee Chairman Abdul Hadi highlighted manpower shortages in local police stations and the need for increased patrolling resources, warning that factory robberies have resurfaced in recent months. DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah assured that new digital monitoring systems and enforcement measures are being implemented to improve traffic discipline and flow across key routes.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies and the industrial community to restore confidence and ensure a safer business environment in Karachi’s key industrial hub.
