Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi Organized a condolence reference in memory of senior prose writer and poetess Hameeda Kashish at the Haseena Moin Hall. The event was attended by prominent literary figures, including Shadab Ehsani, Iftikhar Malik, Bashir Khan Sadozai, Sohail Ahmed, and Dr Aaliya Imam, among others. The proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, while Abdul Basit moderated the condolence reference. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shadab Ehsani said that Hameeda Kashish embodied all dimensions of literature. “Her personality reflected her name, and if her work is compiled in book form, it will reveal the depth of her literary excellence,” he remarked. Dr. Aaliya Imam described the late writer as a remarkable individual, saying that although her presence was deeply valued, the true magnitude of her personality is being realized more profoundly after her passing. She termed Kashish a graceful human being with admirable qualities. Writer Bashir Sadozai paid tribute to her character, noting that she possessed exemplary morals and lived a life free from pretension. He mentioned that she passed away in a traffic accident and added that her writings and photographs would continue to keep her memory alive. He also highlighted that the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi has a longstanding tradition of honoring its contributors. Poet Iftikhar Malik revealed that Hameeda Kashish’s real name was Hameeda Sehar, and that she adopted the pen name “Kashish” after joining the Arts Council, which contributed to her recognition. He described her as a simple and humble person. Sohail Ahmed remarked that Hameeda Kashish held a prominent place in both poetry and prose, adding that her poetry resonated deeply with audiences. The event also featured poetic tributes, with Iftikhar Malik reciting verses of Mirza Ghalib, while Sohail Ahmed presented his own poetry in homage to the late writer.
