Visa Inc. has introduced a new global solution called Intelligent Commerce Connect, designed to support the growing shift toward AI-driven shopping and agent-based digital transactions, marking a major step in the evolution of fintech and automated commerce systems.

Announced on April 20, 2026, the initiative is part of Visa’s broader Intelligent Commerce portfolio and aims to simplify how businesses connect to artificial intelligence-powered shopping systems. The solution enables merchants, payment processors, and AI developers to participate in “agentic commerce,” where AI agents can independently search, select, and complete purchases on behalf of consumers.

Visa said the platform works as a unified integration layer through the Visa Acceptance Platform, allowing secure payment initiation, authentication, tokenization, and spending controls within a single system. It also supports both Visa and non-Visa cards, expanding flexibility for businesses and developers entering the AI commerce ecosystem.

According to Leila Serhan, Senior Vice President & Group Country Manager for North Africa, Levant and Pakistan (NALP), the new system extends Visa’s existing payment infrastructure into the emerging AI economy. She said the goal is to ensure that AI-driven transactions remain secure, scalable, and widely accessible for businesses of all sizes.

The company highlighted several key features of Intelligent Commerce Connect, including compatibility with multiple agent payment protocols, support for merchant catalog integration into AI platforms, and built-in compliance handling for payment enablers. The system is also designed to simplify onboarding through a single integration point, reducing technical complexity for merchants and developers.

Visa confirmed that the solution is currently in pilot phase with select global partners such as AWS, Aldar, Payabli, and Mesh, with broader rollout expected later this year.

The platform also allows merchants to make their product listings discoverable within AI-powered shopping environments, enabling consumers to browse and purchase items directly through AI agents without traditional checkout processes.

Industry analysts view this move as part of a broader transformation in digital payments, where artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how consumers interact with online retail platforms. The shift is expected to reshape e-commerce by reducing friction in purchasing decisions and enabling more automated, personalized shopping experiences.

Visa Inc. said the innovation reflects its long-term mission to connect global economies through secure, reliable, and inclusive payment systems, while adapting to the next generation of digital commerce driven by artificial intelligence.
