Islamabad — Pakistan has secured approval to export potatoes from Punjab to the Russian Federation, effective April 8, 2026, ending phytosanitary restrictions imposed since May 2025. The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) initially cleared three Pakistani exporters: M/s Chase International, M/s Zahid Kinnow Grinding & Waxing Plant, and M/s National Fruit, with the potential for more companies to be added once compliance requirements are met.

Shabana Aziz, Head of Pakistan Trade Mission in Moscow, confirmed that additional exporters will soon be registered. She highlighted that, with the support of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company (PHDEC), virtual B2B meetings are being organized to help exporters maximize this opportunity.

Pakistan is experiencing a bumper potato crop this season, with production estimated at 12 million tons. The newly opened Russian market is expected to absorb surplus stocks, stabilize domestic prices, support farming communities, and generate significant foreign exchange earnings.

This milestone reflects coordinated efforts by the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Department of Plant Protection, TDAP, PHDEC, and Pakistan’s Trade Mission in Moscow, showcasing the government’s commitment to diversifying agro-export markets and strengthening bilateral trade ties with Russia.
